Tanooki is a tool that can edit NSMBWii saves. It can also edit NewerSMBW's items quantity, as well as modify the player status, but it can't change the item quantity of the hammer in NewerSMBW.
Usage
Click File --> Open and open your wiimj2d.sav (NSMBWii) or NerSMBW.sav save file. Then select your region, and the slot (Save 1, Save 2, or Save 3). Make your changes, and when you're done, click the Update button, then File --> Save to save your wiimj2d.sav (NSMBWii) or NerSMBW.sav save file.
NOTE: It's recommended to backup the save file before editing it with Tanooki. Also, make sure to select the correct region that's identical to the save file you want to edit, otherwise your save file will get corrupted. Also, NTSC-U (United States), NTSC-J (Japanese), and PAL (Europe) are the only regions supported.
